One of the things I hope to do with this blog is to show that you can have a quick trip away and it doesn't have to be a drama or cost a fortune. Make the most of every day :)
We are lucky of course that we live on the Sunshine Coast and it is a great base to take short trips to many different places, but I am sure that no matter where you live you would be able to do the same. You just need to have an open mind and a sense of adventure.
So with that in mind our next road trip was to 1770 and Agnes Water. If you are after a break somewhere you can chill out and leave your troubles ( and perhaps technology!) behind than this is the place. Night life is pretty much non existent here and that is one of the appeals for those who want some peace.
We have our little gypsy van fitted out at the back with a mattress and so we opted for a site at the
1770 Camping Grounds, we didn't book ahead and just took our chance. They do have beach front sites ( and they really are beach front sites!) but of course they had none available when we turned up since we had not booked but we still did get an awesome unpowered site with a view of the beach and our own picnic table. Being a nice warm day and with the tide in one of the first things we did was take a dip in the water. The water here is nice and calm, perfect for a lazy dip. Then we went for a bit of a stroll and of course I took some photos. There is different tours you can take if you are staying longer and a few holiday homes and places to eat.
The Tree looked like a nice place to park up on a lazy afternoon with a drink and watch the sun go down. Soon it was time to return to our camp, grab our camp chairs and make ourselves comfortable on the shore to watch the sun go down. This is the ultimate spot to do this and a bit of a ritual for visitors to the area.
We decided to cook our own meal on our little gas stove and sit at our picnic table by candlelight before having a snooze. It was surprisingly quiet and relaxing.
The next day was for more exploring. A bit of a quick history lesson now. The town of 1770 was built on the land where Captain Cook landed in .. you guessed it .. 1770. This was Cooks second landing on Australia. They came ashore to examine the land and Joseph Banks collected some plants. There is a few walks you can take and you will come across the Cairn Monument in Cooks honour. We then drove up to the 1770 lookout which we had to ourselves. The view is amazing and it is often said that 1770 is much like Byron Bay used to be like over 20 years ago. Unspoilt beaches and views. Off to Agnes Water then where you go if you are after more of a surf beach. They have life savers on patrol here and you can take a surfing lesson if you are inclined.
It was just a quick road trip so we then headed home but first stopping off at Bundaberg to get some supplies at the
Bundaberg Rum Distillery shop for some of their famous liquor and then
Bundaberg Brewed Drinks for some ginger beer. A then a quick stop in Childers to stretch our legs.
