Gypsy Woman

Bolero - Vintage
Top  - Peace Angel ( Tree of Life)
Burn Out Velvet Skirt - 90s Vintage
Scarf - Vintage
Necklace / Belly Chain - Thrifted
Silver Hoop Earrings - Gift

I've been practicing my hoop dancing and I had a little bit of a free flow dance when I took these photos, hence most of them turned out blurry! I just couldn't help myself!

I've been dreaming of owning my own little gypsy caravan lately. This is what I imagined the inside would look a little like if I had one with plush velvet and lush fabrics :)

Peter Max - 60s & 70s Psychedelic

Peter Max is an amazing graphic artist and illustrator who is still in action today. My post here features some of the more recognised artworks from the 60s and 70s era as that is my personal favourite time for his artwork.

Marilyn has scanned some awesome images from Seventeen magazine from 1970 which shows some of his artwork used on fashion and even home accessories - groovy man! I've added some below but check out her blog for more awesome photos.

You've Got the Music In You

Sequin Art Deco Top - Vintage

"You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give"

Years ago I worked with a lovely lady who was still grieving the loss of her son through suicide. This song meant a lot to her because he used to always play it and I think in her mind it had kept him positive through some of his challenging times. I remember it came on the radio where we worked and so we both sang it while tears streamed down her cheeks. To her it was a message from him saying he was okay.

If you haven't already guessed by my blog already, music is also really important to me. It has gotten me through some very hard times when I was growing up and beyond. I used to play the piano and sing in a church choir for many years but that wasn't really where my heart lay. So before I get any more time passes I am going to make it a priority to learn an instrument this year I have been wanting to for a long time. Now I've put it out on here I can't make any more excuses can I! Hint: It's not in these photos ;)

Cactus Collection

Mexican Dress - Vintage
Earrings - Gift from a friend
Cowboy Boots - Vintage (Similar Here )

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it's true I'm here, and I'm just as strange as you.”
― Frida Kahlo

How cool are these huge cactus plants?! My dream is to one day visit the U.S and road trip through the Southwest desert and see these plants in their natural landscape.

The Big Rock Candy Mountain

Cotton Floral Dress - Vintage
Embroidered Fringed Shawl - Vintage

"One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains"

I was reminded of this song recently at a bbq/jam I went to and a friend starting singing and playing this song. My late father used to sing it to me when I was only little and I hadn't heard it since. I've had a lot of spooky things happen lately and the timing for this was impeccable.

I went looking for a run down shack in the country I had photographed at previously to do these photos and was sad to see it had now been demolished. That's progress right? Anyway I did my usual thing and went exploring and found these horse paddocks and had a bit of fun swinging on the gate, making sure no bulls came out of nowhere to knock me down! There was a person hidden away sleeping in a tent and for a moment I felt sorry for them but then realised that for some it is a choice and that they may be happy and feeling more free than most of us.

Rastaman Vibration

Rasta Man Tshirt - Vintage
Boots - Dr Martens
Sunflower Sunglasses - $2 Shop

"Live if you want to live
(Rastaman vibration, yeah! Positive!)
That's what we got to give!
(I'n'I vibration yeah! Positive)
Got to have a good vibe!
(Iyaman Iration, yeah! Irie ites!)
Wo-wo-ooh!
(Positive vibration, yeah! Positive!)"

Let's be honest, no matter our best efforts we all have bad days where our positive vibes have gone awol. I have had a few of these lately but one thing that always pulls me out of a funk is reggae music. I'm making a concerted effort to realise when the messages I give myself may not be the most positive and to replace this negative self talk with more loving messages for both myself and others. I would prefer to see the world through rose coloured ( or even sunflower ) sunglasses!
